Luciano Duse

Born and raised in Venice, Italy, Luciano’s interest in photography started as a teenager, shooting his first images in and around the Veneto region of Italy. Now, more than thirty years later, the photographer continues to seek out the unique beauty of distant cultures and historic times. Whether photographing a piece of architecture dating back to the Roman Empire, or daily life in a small Cuban village, the artist strives to capture the ideal blend of natural light and color in order to create the perfect image.

Mario Duse
I seek out images that evoke places that I've seen and dream about.  Ancient buildings, gnarled trees, waving grasses by the sea, places left unchanged for centuries.  For the most part free of human presence, the better to let the beholder make the image his own.  I see myself as an interpreter of far off places with a spiritual message to be shared by all.

Born a photographer's son, I have been immersed in the process of looking at the world through a lens for my entire life.  I prefer to use 6 x 6 medium format camera along with 120 film because it allows for a sharper, more color saturated image.  I shoot in natural light only, at various times of the day and from different angles, a process akin to meditation.

The photographs are printed on Fuji Crystal Archive Paper and mounted & matted to museum standards using only the finest acid free materials.

In addition to his studio location, Mario's photographs can be found on the streets of San Francisco and juried art fairs around the country. Mario has lived and photographed throughout the world and now calls San Francisco his home.
